    Having a rest

Some miles further on I stopped to check out two blobs in a tree - turned out to be yet another Red Kite pair!! Just a few years ago we wouldn't have seen any at all in the area and here we'd come across two pairs in a few miles. Just amazing how they're spreading, obviously due to the release...

    We have lift off

The Kite after a while had a rest from flying and sat at the top of the slope for a bit, but then took off as I was taking pictures of him.

    Company

The Kite we were watching had been suddenly joined by another. This second one disappeared somewhere, but was very quickly replaced by a Buzzard, would you believe They seemed pretty comfortable with each other. That was one of the 'good moments' of birding I think; always the way when you see...

    First of a few

I had to go to Stracathro at the end of August, and on the way back we took the scenic route. After a stop to eat our lunch, we set off again and before too long I spotted a Red Kite hunting across a field beside the road. Stopped to take some pictures.

    Displaying

I went for a little wander along the canal beside my brother's house. On the way back, I spotted a Red Kite putting on a good display over the village and got just about my best Kite picture so far!! Pleased with that!!!

    Red comes in

Red Kites are really spreading throughout this area now and, although not daily sightings, we do come across them pretty often, even had two on my patch the other day! They are still the highlight of the day when we do see any! This one gave me another chance to practise a flight shot.

Taken through the window. A young kite (note eye colour and plumage) in Aug.The kites regularly come down to drink out of an old pond liner I have, filled with water. Kites, buzzard, sparrowhawks, and crows use it regularly.

Are there Red Kites near Stansted Airport?

In November of last year, I drove to Stansted Airport in London to get to Poland. The four hours staring out the window were very productive mostly due to the good weather with three kestrels hovering over the motorway (my first), two buzzards, one flying relatively low over a motorway bridge...

I saw about 20+ in a tree, probably the most I've seen at once, let alone perched! They kept flying off and then returning, although the lighting wasn't great, I got one or two acceptable shots!

Red Kite for someone special :)

I have just realized that I don't usually post my art here... so I am posting this because I am quite proud of this quick artwork of mine. If you have read some of my previous posts, you may have noticed that I really like red kites. They have always been special birds to me, as they were the...

A Long Week of Campus Birding: A Summary of Events

Haven't been active on here much, but I am very glad to say that I have been birding constantly over the past few weeks, and that I would gladly wake up early in the morning just to see the birds around my school campus. Since I was gone, I have seen many different types of birds that are new...
