CRYPTIC plumage 2 (1 Viewer)

Saying that I had a feeling I had a wrong grass for the 'short grass grain' , and googled a single phrase and hence have it -

(7, 9)

Think I've seen them in both Morocco and Canaries.

You get no marks for that I’m afraid, you have to spell it out (and why!)

3. (WP et al) Portugese beard has short grass grain on the end not all with some porridge

5. (N) Took an overnighter to Delaware (saving energy) then hear
change of direction toward part of large Brazilian City.

Don’t forget; refer to the wiki link https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2c/Wallace03.jpg for the region area and remember every word of the species can be worked out from the clue and maybe a bit of googling, so you don’t necessarily have to know the species (but it helps!;))

Just these to solve now - ( more coming soon)

If no one gets these - I’ll post answers tomorrow (maybe they were too hard?)

clues
1. perhaps in a pear tree? (7,9) which Dan probably got but wouldn’t say :t:
2. Autumn vagrant to UK - Easington! (3-4, 5)

1 - Barba Wry Part Ridge - Barbary Partridge (I was waiting for Dan to show his work!)

2 - Redeye D Via Rio - Red-eyed Vireo (not too sure how to get to the D).

1. Yes, except short grass grain is ‘ry’ ie shortened from ‘rye’

2. Yes - Red-eye (overnight flight) De = Delaware minus ‘e’ (energy) hears (sounds like) vere (vir) towards Rio de Janeiro (short = Rio)

So well done B :)

Wry / rye - showing up my poor spelling :-C

Next clues: Hopefully ‘global’ friendly with a bit of googling, not just for UK birders!

(region in brackets https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2c/Wallace03.jpg, some easy, some not!)

1. Island Queen’s short American Autumn deception produces late breeder. (WP)

2. All in favour of a brew to put in a metal container for a Catholic girl short of a Roman 1000 (Ethiop)

3. Giving Pasta to a publishing company finds a resident in southernmost continent (Antarctic)

4. Great UK rail company below the mountain produces a trilling vocalist. (WP)

5. Enlarge under glass at 100 x, then ship to end in a hole under par (without that is) (N)

6. Film starring Kenneth Williams, Sid James and Joan Sims to gloat over other people’s misfortune?
(WP)

2. All in favour of a brew to put in a metal container for a Catholic girl short of a Roman 1000 (Ethiop)

Protea canary

All in favour - pro

brew - tea

metal container - can

Catholic girl - Mary

short of Roman 1000 - take off the M

:eek!: Omg Kits, I am seriously impressed - correct of course (‘can’ here is used as a verb (to put in) but is the same result obviously as ‘can’ the noun)

1 and 5 outstanding ...

Why, thank you, Deb! I am really enjoying these and thank you for your hard work in coming up with the clues.
