Griswold’s UK Birding List 2022 (1 Viewer)

Promised my youngest I’d take him to the garden centre today so a trip to Goldcliff was off the cards. Some good birds there today that’ll have to wait for another time. Tbh I was a little hungover after watching yesterday’s FA cup so maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing.

Anyway. The spuds, lettuce and herbs are all now planted and he really got stuck in. Nice to get him off the games.

We did manage a quick walk around Pant y Sais Fen this morning. Great view of a Sedge Warbler but also picked up Grasshopper Warbler.

180! Grasshopper Warbler

I see they are up to 3 temmincks stints at goldcliff now. Hopefully they will hang around. Viewing conditions weren’t the best today

Still need grasshopper warbler.

Had to happen. Picked up Covid last week. Felt pretty rough for the first day and then more of a heavy cold and fuggy. Fatigue has been an issue though.

Do today was the 10th day and as I had no symptoms I headed out. Had planned on getting up at 04:20 but the pup had other ideas. Ended up rising at 04:00!!

Arrived at Dinas nice and early as a result. Quite quiet tbh but there a few Common Redstarts around and a Wood Warbler and a year tick in the form of a Spotted Flycatcher.

Next it was up to Llyn Brianne. Walked up where the Whinchat normally are but no joy today. Heaps of other birds though- Siskins, Yellowhammers, GSW’s, Linnets, Spotted Flycatchers, Redpolls etc. Did manage to pick up a couple of families of Whinchat though as I drove further round.

Next it was off to Ynyshir. Arrived too late so it was pretty quiet. Lovely little place to wander round though. Year ticked Osprey and sat and watched a Common Whitethroat. Stopped at Borth on the way home and year ticked Manx Shearwater.

Has been an absolute stunning day. Loads of Red Kites everywhere and the roads not too busy. Time for a barbecue.

Beautiful morning at Ham Wall today. Left at 5:30 and arrived 7:30ish.

Great White Egrets around and a Marsh Harrier. Was stood in the wrong place for the first half hour. BirdGuides had dropped the pin in the wrong place. Clicked on the map reference and wandered down toward the Avalon Hide. Bumped into Peter and Barry on the way and we all checked out VP2. I then went to the map reference and the birder from Street quickly got on the target bird. Nice one👍

Spotted Crake in the bag and a Green Sandpiper dropped in for good measure.

Messaged Peter and Barry who quickly turned up with a few other birders. Didn’t show for the next hour whilst I was there but I just noticed it’s been seen again on BirdGuides. Hopefully everyone connected.

Stopped off very quickly at Goldcliff on the way home. Couldn’t pick out the Wagtail but Little Stint was a year tick. Always good to catch up with Paul from over in the next valley as well.

214. Spotted Crake. Lifer #9 👍

A short trip down to Pembrey Harbour this morning. Great to see 100+ Sandwich Terns. Fantastic to hear them calling as they flew around.

Also the pup is now the proud owner of a tracker. He disappeared for 20-25 mins last Thursday from the field where I always walk him. I suspect he was after a rabbit/ squirrel. Anyway. He’s now having even more cwtches than usual 👍
