How's Your 2024 List Going? (3 Viewers)

I'm in France for several weeks for work. At the weekend I managed to pick up a common summer migrant that I completely missed this year due to not being in their habitat very much! A bit embarrassing to only get it at this stage of the year!

239. Sedge Warbler

Had a low-volume but high quality morning. In addition to my three year birds, I also got great views of a Connecticut Warbler, which I had as a heard-only lifer this spring.

199. Merlin
200. Wilson's Warbler
201. Yellow-bellied Flycatcher

The remnants of Hurricane Helene are passing through my area. Nothing spectacular has shown up yet, but I did get a new year bird this morning in the rain:

203. Common Tern

Another scarce (at least according to eBird) fall migrant this morning. Probably more common than generally thought. Most birders (at least in my area) don’t usually go into mucky cattail swamps to look for the bird. Not too hard to find with a little bit of effort at this time of the year.

513. Marsh Wren

Last week I saw a Sora for the first time at Plum Island. I don't keep a life list but I'm sure I've never seen this guy before. Probably won't be seeing one again soon as it involves staring in the reeds waiting for one to emerge for hours....unless you're lucky enough to have another birder show you where he is :)

During a quick stop this afternoon, I got two nice year birds, the second being the first eBird record for my county:

204. Lincoln's Sparrow
205. Sedge Wren

After work I stopped by a nearby pond where a regionally rare bird was found yesterday afternoon.

514. Red-necked Phalarope

A county lifer (number 254).

Not as exciting as yesterday’s county lifer, this afternoon I added a common fall migrant to my Year List.

515. Lincoln’s Sparrow

Today I was pleasantly surprised by a late migrant that had basically gone off my radar:

206. Mourning Warbler
