Apparently there is pretty good confirmation. The initial sighting was about two years ago. Cornell University then sent an expedition out, which confirmed the sighting. Then a second expedition got a short but apparently clear videotape of the IBWP. I think part of the reason they have held off so long on a public announcement was so they could be very sure about this.
