Marsh & Willow Tits in Japan (1 Viewer)

I'm watching a few Japanese feeder cams: a couple in Hokkaido and one in Honshu. I'm seeing Marsh/Willow Tits regularly, especially on the Hokkaido webcams. How are the eastern races of these two species told apart on plumage? Is there any accessible online literature on them?

Marsh tits in Japan are restricted to Hokkaido but you also get Willow tits there. They differ in habitat choices, plumage and calls/songs but an overall combination of features is best for identifying them. As for online - this article goes into detail about the differences Morphological differences between Marsh Tit Parus palustris and Willow Tit P. montanus in Hokkaido

Many thanks - really good reference (though it's a shame that the Abstract wasn't better translated, or written so it read well on its own). Brilliant help. Many thanks.
