I don't see much information on the web about Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary near Lucknow. For a place like it to exist here should be considered a miracle because growing population and pollution has threatened life for almost all wild animals.
Nawabganj is mostly a small shallow lake surrounded by a fence. I've visited it a few times and took many pictures but only recently (end of January) did I get to see some serious bird action. Most birds here are winter visitors who arrive during November and leave by February.
The sanctuary is a government run enterprise and I was surprised at how seriously the staff take their job. Before you buy a ticket (30 rupees per person), you have to provide your full name, address, date of birth, and father's name. If you provide (and deposit) proper identification, the staff will lend you a 8x40 pair of binoculars which is really cool.
Immediately before you enter the trail around the lake, you see a sign board containing names of all birds that are found here:
