New camera - what do I need to work on? (1 Viewer)

I'm just practicing with a Nikon D40X with a 70 - 300 zoom. This was taken at about 150 feet away. I only sharpened and cropped it. The camera was set on auto. Should I get a teleconverter, since most of my shots will be nature shots?

Thanks,
Mark

The best thing you can do is learn to use your camera's settings. Of course, a longer focal length is always useful when trying to get close to wildlife.
