Where premium quality meets exceptional value. ZEISS Conquest HDX.

One-and-done: Zeiss Conquest HD or wait for new version? (1 Viewer)

If the object of the exercise is to go birding (or indeed hunting or whatever) hunt down the best bargain you can get on whichever of the 8x32 or 8x42 Conquest HD you prefer (if you don't know which you prefer, get your ass down to the nearest store that has both, and try them) and start using them right away. Super proven, excellent image and seriously, if you got the newer model or even a SF you're likely to be what - 1% more effective in the field (if that, and possibly less with a SF because you'd be tempted to baby it)?
How does one estimate how “effective in the field” one is?

t's too bad the little knob protrudes from the bottom of the bridge, instead of being flush with it, like the SF's and I believe the SFL? One of my favorite attributes of the SFs....it is the most comfortable 42mm to hand-carry IMO.
you could unscrew the little knob. I always removed those caps on binos that had them.

good point - maybe there's nothing underneath, or a recessed hole for tripod adapter. I hope the local bird store carries these, I know they have Terra/SFL/SF, not sure if they were stocking the old Conquest. I'd love to be able to compare the new 10x56 with my 10x56 SLC.

Right now, there is no 50mm binocular in the entire Zeiss lineup....a 50mm SFL would be perfect! Sign me up. Why not be creative and go with 9x50 and 12x50 with the magnification, there are plenty of 10x50's out there.

So maybe Zeiss is using the same manufacturing partner in Japan as the SFL. Or maybe a different one. I would just put "Zeiss" on it and not "designed by Zeiss" that's always been a turn-off for me...sounds like you're hiding something. Apple Computer's "designed by Apple in California"...yuck
