Swaro SLC 7x30 (1 Viewer)

Hi,

does anyone have an opinion on what these bins might be worth?

Mine are some of the last made so will have the most recent coatings.

I took them to my local optics shop some years ago and the staff were amazed to see them as they had only ever seen ones exhibited in a glass case at Swaro headquarters in Austria. Rare as hens' teeth, they said.

Interested to hear what you folk think about them.

Best wishes
BS

I read somewhere, probably here, that very late models of the 7x30, just before they were discontinued, did get phase coated prisms. I don't know if that is true or not. In any case you can determine when it was manufactured by its Serial Number. Otherwise much will depend on the condition of your binocular. They don't have as wide a FOV as the 8x30s had.

Steve (mooreorless) is the man to ask here on BF. He owned one since it was made in the last century!

PS: The 8x30 version always outsold the 7x30. The 8x30 SLC lasted until 2010. Swarovski replaced it with 2 binoculars! ;) The 8x30 CL Companion and the 10x30 CL Companion.

Hi Boogie,

Trade in value 500,00 euro and absolutly not rare, common but highly regarded.

Sad indeed. Very nice bins the 7x42. Way too heavy for me though. I used to own a pair but sold them because of the weight.

A 7x35 version would have lightened the load! :)

Yes they are heavy. I have one. They actually were discontinued in 2006 although they hung around for a few more years until they were all sold. They missed some of the modernization that the later SLCs got.

Hi Bob,

I think LCSS gave me $400 trade in for the Swaro 8x30Neu SLC I bought. Bob they still had my old one there a year or so after I traded and it was the original 7x30 SLcompact, that is what was in the flyer I had. I sort of felt bad. They did sell it though.

Stephen B. sold one on here, he had contacted me before this and offered it to me. I probably should of bought it off of him. We had some extra bills at the time etc. etc. ;) Thanks Stephen B for the offer back then! Link to his ad and an attachment with prices and showing SL compact SLC later I guess.

I found the 7x42 SLC has an excellent 3D effect surpassing my Nikon 8x32 SE. Better eyes placement too without any kidney bean or blackout problem. Bino harness is one of the solution for the weight

Steve,

Your first link has information in it at post #3 that states Steve B.'s 7x30 SLC was phase coated.

The 7x30 also had longer eye relief than the 8x30 did. I could have gotten along with one of them just fine!:t:

Yes, I did sell my 7x30 SLC; excellent binocular. Probably shouldn't have- but I do like what I have now, and I still have more bins than I really need. I had a 7x30 SLC from 1996 until 2014; actually had two of them during that time. First one was a 1996 that I sold in 2009; and then I regretted it and bought a 2000 model a few months later.

Both were phase coated and were the latest of the 7x30's made, as last year made was 2001. 7x30 SLC had longer ER than the 8x30; was just slightly heavier; and it had a narrower FOV compared to the 8x30- but was sharp and flat close to the edge. Good little bin.

I recently acquired a 7x42 SLC NEU (2006), and I must say it is a very nice binocular. Yes it is heavy, but it is well balanced; has a wide FOV; and has a very sharp to edge view. Works well with a harness, and it simply shines when mounted on a tripod. Easy pleasing view, with nice 3d effect.

Now if it just had the size and weighed what my old 7x30 SLC did. ;)

Bob,

In 2003 Swarovski (SONA) made my old Swarovski 7x30 SLC new again after years of pretty hard use. All it cost me was shipping, 9$ if I remember right. After that they had me as a customer for sure. When I traded in the 7x30 LCSS did not have any of the newer 7x30 SLC in stock that I could even try.

In my link of Mack Optical & Machine Tool you will notice there are no 7x42 SLC roofs or any of the other SLC , just traditional with the SL porro as well.
