Upton Warren (143 Viewers)

Do I detect an issue with the primary feathers on the left wing in Lee's shot, or us it just a red herring?

Des.

Also have a look at Stuart Andrews' photo on the WorcesterBirding website news page - something going on with primary on left wing (missing / broken / bent??). Personally I would be amazed if it isn't the same individual involved in the Bittell and Upton sightings.

Agreed.

Managed a couple of shots from the B/channel but the light at 08:50 this morning was absolutely dire.

Strangely yesterday I didn't hear a single snipe fly out at dark at the Flashes. Whether this was due to the increase in sprawk and peregrine attacks on the lapwing flocks I'm not sure. But numbers tend to decrease in December after peaking in November. This generally happens when freeze overs occur, but we haven't had any so far, so perhaps they always move off in December. However there are always some calling at dark, maybe they're all at the Moors on Amy's Marsh. ?

Will be interesting to see when you next do a work party around Amys Marsh / Broadmeadow what numbers come out; as we saw from the survey after the December work party at the Flashes there are limited numbers (4 or 5 Jacks, no more than 10 Common) on that side of the reserve.

Lots of Redpolls feeding away in the gloom, just to the left of the entrance to The Flashes

Tuesday work party

Tomorrow we will start a new 3 year cycle of reed bed management. The block A reed section along the causeway is where we will be working tomorrow. The water level has been dropped to enable us to work in relatively dry conditions.
Meet at car park 9ish wellies needed. Other small tasks might also be carried out depending on numbersjohn
