Very busy at the bird feeder today! (43 Viewers)

Thanks, Mary. We are well stocked with food for the birds and also for Brenda and me!

The European finally found their way to our yard to join the:
American Robins
Dark-eyed Juncos
House Finches
Downy Woodpeckers
Pine Siskins
Northern Cardinals
Red-bellied Woodpeckers
Red-breasted Nuthatches
Black-capped Chickadees
House Sparrow
American Goldfinches
&
Blue Jays

It's 75F (24C) here today with a few rain showers. My wife tells me the feeders in our yards are pretty quiet, except for White-winged Doves.

I guess there's still time this "winter" for some new birds to be pushed down to Houston by cold weather further north. For example, a few Red Crossbills would be nice.

7 Coal Tits this morning (new garden high), 3 Bullfinches, 2 Siskins and 2 Goldfinches. And of course the Goldcrest every 20 minutes or so.

that is impressive Bingo :t:

Indeed. Bingo Bongo! 3:)

Close to 10 Siskin today in amongst the Finch Fest. Hadn't seen any Brambling lately though so I figured they must have gone until I went out to top of the feeders. As all the birds had scattered there was nothing around so naturally quite a surprise as I approached the feeders and out of a bush within touching distance of me a bird flushed and I saw that unmistakable white rump as it flew off. :t:

I had 7 siskins, 3 redpolls, 3 linnets, 26 goldfinch, 32 house sparrows, 2 coal tits, 1 great tit, 2 blue tits, 5 feral pigeon, 4 wood pigeon, 2 collared doves, 11 starlings, 1 robin, 3 blackbirds, 2 jackdaws, 1 song thrush, 1 wren and 1 blackcap in my garden today.

Running out of food fast.:eat:

Regards Gerard.

That's a great list, especially Linnets and the number of Goldfinches:t:

Yes i have had good numbers in my back garden for a few weeks now. I had 12 redpolls the other day. It's the first time in two years that I have had a blackcap in my back garden.

Regards Gerard.

A pair of Collared Doves yesterday were the first of the year. Also 4 Siskins, a Redpoll, 4 Bullfinch, 3 LTTs and a Goldcrest.

Woken at 6 this morning by a Song Thrush.

A greenfinch this lunchtime was also a year first.

Also 6 Coal Tits, 2 GSWs, 4 Bullfinches, 3 LTTs, 4 Siskins, Sparrowhawk and a Goldcrest.

I usually get a Song Thrush in the garden most winters, probably of continental origin as they disappear come the Spring. This winter though we've had a two birds (a pair?) for the first time since I moved here in 2004. This morning at 6.30 I heard a muted but unmistakeable song of a Thrush. Unbelievable as it may seem, that's a first for this location!

I'm hoping they (if there is a 'they') like it enough here to set up home and stay, they would certainly help with my snail plague too!
