Joint BF Lockdown Listing - Autumn 2020 (1 Viewer)

With lockdown looming in England, and already in place in many parts of Europe and elsewhere, time again for a lockdown listing thread to help alleviate some of the pain, encourage community birding spirit, give some birding encouragement and share vicarious pleasure ... ??

Rules - these were mostly thrashed out on previous threads, debatable, but -

Rule 1 - Birds to be seen on foot or by cycle only from place of residence (ie no car or public transport involved at all) whilst under either official lockdown or self-enforced lockdown/quarantine.

Rule 2 - That's mostly it, but technicalities may follow/crop up I'm sure.


Autumn is mostly over, but winter visitors are arriving and building up. Feel free to add day lists, accounts or pics from around the world. If you are not currently in lockdown feel free to contribute out of interest (and under the same restrictions as Rule 1) BUT when/if we do a joint list (eg on a spreadsheet) they won't necessarily count, unless we decide otherwise.

For a starting point, not sure whether the aim/spirit of the thread is to encourage garden and local birding absolutely as a way of encouraging local birding and discouraging unnecessary travel (which can either marginally or meaningfully affect CV19 spread), in which case ALL garden listing should count for all throughout??? Thoughts?

England - starts lockdown Thursday 5th November.
Wales - currently in firebreak lockdown (dates?)
France in lockdown already

Rest of the world ... ??

In garden terms, Herring Gull and Jackdaw seen, along with a Blackbird heard this morning whist checking the moth trap. Bit wet and blowy.

Ruddy grim up on Drummau Mountain this afternoon. Horizontal rain. Soaked through. I think the only species we can add are Meadow Pipit and Redwings

Nice. I would say it would as think this is an easy-going thing rather than a strict competition. Plus makes it easier not to have to monitor everything too closely!

I'm assuming this officially starts today for England. A bit of a sparse list from an after work walk along the shore of the (Duddon) estuary and back through the scrubby woods on the old industrial land above the shore. The estuary is still fairly quiet with the large flocks of waders and wildfowl yet to arrive. The small flock of wintering Twite were nice to see though. I always look forward to their return in the autumn.
