Wigtown Bay Reserve

Overview

Bird Hide located on Wigtown Harbour, which is not far from the county buildings in Wigtown.

The hide looks out over the largest LNR in Britain with the largest area of saltmarsh and mudflats on the outer Solway.

Notable Species

The birding is first class with Pintail, Barnacle Goose, Shoveler, Pink-footed Goose, Pochard, and many more.

Internationally important for wintering Pink-footed Goose and nationally important for Pintail, Whooper Swan and Curlew.

Breeding and passage waders, ducks and terns.

The hide at Wigtown harbour has views over the River Bladnoch, saltmarsh and freshwater wetland. The hide has access for the disabled. Wigtown in Dumfries & Galloway turn of left at the roundabout for Newton Stewart head for Wigtown about 6 miles (these directions are coming from the M6 going west). Parking 5 minutes from hide. WATCH THE TIDE, read the signs
