Markellisonart, Since you live just a few miles from me, I thought it was interesting to hear that you don't have reliable titmice. When WNV struck, I lost all my titmice and chickadees. After about a year the chickadees came back, followed by the titmice. I now get 3+ a day. The other day I...

    Today at the feeder

Oddly, I've had very few birds at my feeders the last week or so, even tho its been very cold. The squirrels have been wreaking havoc - they ripped open one of my thistle socks, knocked my window feeder to the ground, and gobbled up every seed and crumb of suet in sight. Sigh. --Neil G.

    Today at the feeder

Well, I haven't had anything exciting lately. With temps in the 40's, the feeders are dead. Before it warmed up, I had a Fox Sparrow, a Hermit Thrush, plus the usuals at my feeders. Could you Canadians send us some cold weather and redpolls please?

    Today at the feeder

Well, my goldfinch flock has returned, (finally), but not in great numbers. I had 15 today, which is nothing compared to the 90-strong flock that I had two years ago. I've also had a couple Cardinals, ~8 chickadees, Juncos, White-throated Sparrows, Blue Jays, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy...

    Today at the feeder

Gosh, now that I think about it, I've not seen much lately in my yard... I'll try to get out a little tommorrow morning, and I will post what I see. I'm going to put the feeders out again soon. We also went down to Columbus for a few days last week. I couldn't go birding, but I was startled...

    Today at the feeder

Yesterday I saw a hummingbird in my garden, but unfortunately it didn't stick around. Now is the slow time around here; the birds are quiet and shy, and no migrants are coming through. Hopefully that will change soon.

I haven't posted here in ages... but not too much going on here. Tammie, your birds sound like House Wrens. They have loud songs like that, and they do sing a lot! Speaking of wrens, a male filled up my backyard box with twigs. After a couple days, a neat grass cup appeared and now there's a...

    Today at the feeder

Well, I haven't posted here in awhile, but I've been busy with birding trips, etc. I think I'll start with my "nestbox story". Back in mid-May, a pair of chickadees built a nest in one of my boxes and laid ~4-5 eggs. Then, a House Sparrow attacked!!! The sparrow broke 3 eggs and the chickadees...

    Today at the feeder

Yesterday I saw a Cooper's Hawk in my neighborhood, and "my" grackles are back! Some Mallards have been hanging around the puddles. I don't know what's going on with my Red-bellied Woodpecker! He first drilled a hole in one tree, then made another in another tree! I haven't seen the female...

Sorry about not posting here for a long time either - I got back from a great trip to Germany last week. The birding has been fairly slow here. Yesterday, I found two little Hermit Thrushes poking around my backyard. I was able to approach closely for once! Today, the chickadees have been...

Not much around here, but I've noticed the goldies are really changing - some look downright weird with patches of bright yellow throughout their plumage. Also, I had an Eastern Phoebe in my yard yesterday morning.

Well, our snow melting, with temperatures reaching into the 40's! (F) There haven't been many birds at the feeders - in fact, almost none. Pretty dismal feeder watching. I've been having a lot of bird activity at my feeders the past few days. I've been delighted to see two very cute Red-breasted Nuthatches enjoying my "Peanut butter and seed sandwiches".
