Picked up this Docter Optik Aspherical as new, boxed never used. It seems basically the same binocular as the DDR Notarem, but with better modern styling and armour. It is slightly better than the Notarem I had, but still not a patch on the old Zeiss West Dialyt. Nice to hold, good balance. FOV 130m@1000m. The eye cups are built into the body armour, I find I have to position very carefully to avoid blackouts.

The aspherical optics are an improvement over the so-so CZJ Notarem, and build quality was enhanced with this model as well. Unfortunately, the Docter version, like the Notarem, was not phase corrected, and it shows.

Thanks Chartwell, knowing it's not phase coated explains a lot, it's a shame as it could have made the world of difference to this binocular, I would have thought phase coating was around when this was made, not sure when that was, but must have been well after reunification of E & W Germany..
