12x50 Sticky Focus? (1 Viewer)

Has anyone who owns a 12x50 found the focus dial to be sticky rather than rolling smoothly? I ask because my edition suffers from that. I have used it for ten years and it never got any smoother.

Hello,

I have had my 12x50 BA for more than a decade of light use with no such problem.

Happy bird watching,
Arthur Pinewood :hi:

I sampled a brand new 12x50 last week and yes, I would definitely describe the focuser as having ‘stiction’. It also had the seemingly normal small amount of freeplay that so many Ultravids have.
I think both issues can be worked around with technique and possibly by using two fingers to focus with.

I think if you're going to buy the Leica 12x50 you better buy it where you can try it out in person rather than trusting you'll get a smooth focusing copy online.

Might I ask what Ultravid model are you referring to, the BR or the later HD models.

Regards,
A.W.
