AOU-NACC Proposals 2009-D (1 Viewer)

More evidence that the AOU only posts updates when I am out of town :)

It's nice to see the Mexican Whip-poor-will issue finally being addressed. Not sure if the argument for the Curve-billed Thrasher split is strong enough, and it worries me that no one has formerly described the Southern clade. I could see, until that happens, the AOU not going ahead with the split out of concern of not being sure what to do about the southern clade.

I certainly second Mysticete's commments re: the Whip-poor-will. This has long struck me as one of the most obvious taxonomic inconsistencies around. Note that Eastern vs. Azure Bluebird (and many others) follow the same pattern.

Even the Nat Geo guide says it's probably a full species. One would hope with the prevalence of that guide this is not shocking news :)
