Dove egg (1 Viewer)

Hello! I’m new here and have a situation, please help if you can.
I have doves that nest in my palm tree in front of my window. I have watched many baby birds hatch and fly away.
Yesterday our yard man scared the momma and I believe she flew the nest and ruffled an egg out of it at the same time. I found the egg this morning on the ground.
Should I put it back?? I’m scared to mess with it but feel the need to help.
She allows me to come close but of course at some point she will fly away for me to slip it back in her nest

Welcome to Birdforum. It’s worth putting it back in the nest though, depending on how long it was out of the nest, it may not be viable.

Hi kbarnes68, welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group. If you are sure she is not around you could put it back in the nest, but make sure she doesn’t see you. I don’t know if it will still be viable or not.

I have deleted your other “hello post” with the same information, so all replies will be in one place.

Hi KB and a warm welcome from me too. Depending how heavily the egg landed, it may be damaged, in which case it would definitely not be viable. Even a hairline crack, which you may not be able to see would be enough. But I'm not saying don't give it a go.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.
