cheers, a

44 ardeids (IOC), but about to lose one if the Great Egrets get relumped!

I get very excited by anything with the word Bittern in it's name, wicked birds.

Agree with that - I've always loved bitterns (big and small) but never liked egrets (and there are very few birds I don't like!) - they're just so....obvious!

cheers, alan

I was going to have a pop at egrets too Alan, but had a change of heart at the last minute, as I must be getting soft ;). Enjoyed finally sorting out Chinese E though. You're a hard man if that was'nt a "positive egret moment" for you too?

Yes that's a nice one in summer plumage - a real birder's egret!

cheers, alan

I'm afraid to say (but honest enough!) that I just had to google it to refresh myself on what one looks like, but that is one absolutely gorgeous bird.

Mind you even Intermediate Egret is one I've always fancied in Britain after the Italian record, and one of the few birds I'd be tempted to find any way to twitch

7 Ciconiidae (storks), 11 Threskiornithidae (Ibis and Spoonbills), and 24 Ardeidae (herons).

Most recent additions are from Japan (of course)

Eastern Cattle Egret
Yellow Bittern
Eurasian Bittern (YES!!!)

I have all the regularly occurring ABA species, although I still haven't seen the white form of Great Blue Heron, although I hopefully will this year.
