Over the last month or so, migrants were coming in dribbles, with one or two year birds showing up every few days to a week. Today finally felt like spring migration has begun in earnest, as I added eight birds to my Year List.

I'm back in Madagascar for ~6 more weeks. Had a handful of year ticks from my hotel in Antananarivo. Much lower numbers and diversity than I saw from the same hotel back in November.

MARCH 2022 - MONTHLY OVERVIEW

- Was able to increase my year list to 105 from 79 in March, checking out local birds and a ski trip to Austria.

- That included one lifer, the Eurasian Crag-Martin in Königsleiten, Austria.

The wren was a Preston County lifer (number 245) and only the third record for the county. It was my first county lifer in a year and a half, to the day, exactly.

April 30
Headed out early this morning to Hughes Hollow, a great birding area visited by many locals. Was on the lookout for a continuing Anhinga, which would have been a lifer, but unfortunately I did not see.

That said, I was happy to see 38 species together with other birders, including two new lifers - a very small Least Bittern hiding under some lillies at the water's edges, and several Prothonotary Warblers. Great morning out in the woods.

Intermittent heavy rain basically ruined birding today, but I was able to see one new bird for the year.
