June Moths (1 Viewer)

I thought the wing shape (doesn't look convex on the sides) fit either angustea or lineola best, but if you know them better then I'm happy to accept your ID!

I'm having a brain fart on this one. I'm sure I've seen it before but can't remember for the life of me what it is? Came to light through my flat window yesterday. I was thinking Bee Moth when I photographed it but can't find any examples this dark. Worthing by the way.

Nothing exciting in the trap yesterday morning, multiples as follows: 3 Heart and Club, 2 each of Heart and Dart, Marbled Minor agg and Chrysoteuchia culmella. Riband Wave and Small Clouded Brindle best of the rest.

However, I then had a day out at Martin Down and picked up some day-flyers for the year and the camera: Crambus perlella, Five-spot Burnet, Mother Shipton, Burnet Companion - plus a very worn Silver Y.

24 lifers, 54 NFY, 4 new possible state records, and 192 total species since last update. Unseasonably warm and humid has helped. Going to try some baiting tonight, see if I can get some more diversity.
Sculptured Moth was a lifer, and bucket list moth that I wish was in a little better shape.

May get this Giant Leopard Moth shot framed at some point. My favorite moth. Normally they are very docile. This was the first one I've caught flapping its wings so managed a short with the body visible.

This Epiblema desertana was at one point #800 for me, but I was able to get some ID's on some genus and higher moths I set aside to check later.

Would have been easy to ignore this one thinking it was a wasp at first. Lesser Peachtree Borer Moth

This Lepidotarphius perornatella is an introduced Asian species, first possible record for my state.
20240618-11a7238_orig.jpg

This Peppered Haimbachia Moth is first of this genus for my state also.

A session of two halves for me last night-around the trap, reasonable numbers flapping round, albeit mostly not ID’d, with but a few exceptions Small Elephant Hawk (hit me in the nose whilst attempting to image under a leaf 🤣)
Light Emerald, Common Emerald + 4 Brimstone.

This am 3 H&D in the trap!!! + 1 H&C on the parasol along with Riband Wave and Green Pug.
Not bad by my current standards, circa 8 of 14 not including a half dozen Noctuid escapes and a dozen or so Tortix sp under the parasol.

Low but some nice additions last night albeit I had not anticipated rain showers!

Heart and Dart multiples
Snout x 1
Beautiful Hooktip x 2
Beautiful Golden Y x 1
Treblelines x 1
Blotched Emerald x 1
Poplar Hawkmoth x 1 (my first hawkmoth this year)

Not a bad haul last night to include 2 nfy (LYU and Snout) plus Blotched Emerald, Common Emerald, Green Pug, Blood Vein etc. In all 12 species to include two micro sp.

Am not into micros but just wondered what these ones were. Not much else in trap!

Slow improvement in numbers & variety continues with NFY Marbled Beauty, Dot Moth & Dark Arches (three of) yesterday morning, and a micro that I think is a Hawthorn Moth.
