I too love the classics, but I think it's a good reminder that we live in a golden age for optics. I owned 7x35B's and the Retro 7x35's simultaneously and all I can say is thank Dog for modern coatings and glass!! I know Gis/House-of-Outdoors has done a Trinnie comparo and the numbers are amazing (poor for older glass and 90's transm for new).

You wear glasses I see. Don't you have problems with the shortish eye relief of most of the leica's?

Not any of those. I have avoided the 10X42 and 10/12X50 for that reason even though there is a good chance they would be fine.

I dare to as a question which may sound like someone asking a father which is the child he loves the most but so be it: If you had to choose one glass from this set for your personal, everyday use, which one would you pick? Thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to the answer!

Thanks! It would easily be either of the 7X ones. I'd probably pick the Ultravid HD+ because of armoring/WP even though I probably use the Retrovid more.

I've noticed that a few other members seem to have been lucky enough to find them in mint condition. Every time I pick them up I look them over to see if my assumption of them looking new isn't just self deception!

I know Gis/House-of-Outdoors has done a Trinnie comparo and the numbers are amazing (poor for older glass and 90's transm for new).

Any comparisons that I've seen to date have been done with older black logo models, but never yet with the last of them, displaying the red circle, which would be the comparison that I would be willing to send mine in for. I suppose it's possible that the numbers would come up the same, but with coating advancements not always announced, I suspect that those of us who have the red circle Leitz 7x35 may well be getting a bit more light through.

Someday someone should do a comparison with the oldest black logo, newest red logo and Retrovid all in one test. Such a legendary heritage there in this instantly lovable binocular.

BTW....the green Trinovid in my picture...it's actually a Leitz 10X40 BA(the latest version) so it's optics are really good!

Actually the striking omission here is 32mm glass... and those have more modest ER too, so is that why?

All your wishes are fulfilled with regard to the investigation of older Leitz binoculars as well as the Leica Retrovid 7x35. There are two elaborate tests reports on the WEB-site of House of Outdoor with regard to these Leica binoculars.
