Secret Bird II (6 Viewers)

Good job prairiemerlin! The "secret bird" is Northern Saw-whet Owl! Here is your next "secret bird"...

(1) This "secret bird" prefers early successional habitats for nesting

How does Neil do it??

OK I'm not sure what that means Bobby, but how bbout Kirtland's Warbler?

sorry guy's but you are both wrong!

birderbf: early successional habitat-land in an early stage of recovery from disturbance, usually dominated by a dense shrubby groundcover and some fast-growing, shade-intolerant tree species. Examples of early successional habitat can be found at the edges between fields and forests, in abandoned pasture or crop land, and in areas that were recently clear-cut.

That sounds about right!

Mourning Warbler!

Sorry guys but you are both wrong! Here is your next clue. Keep guessing and good luck!

(2) This "secret birds" population increased for over 100 years as forests were cut down. Now, however, it is losing ground, both because of reforestation and displacement by other early successional habitat nesters.

prairiemerlin strikes again...the answer is Golden-winged Warbler!
That means the rest of you are going to have to step up your game if you want to break prairiemerlin's winning streak! This next "secret bird" will not be guessed so easily...I hope...

(1) This "secret bird" has an unstreaked gray chest

(2) Unlike other members of its genus this "secret bird" has longer legs that allow it to waid through shallow water.
