Swarovski 7x30 B SLC Mark I produced in the year 2000 ? (2 Viewers)

I recently bought a 7x30 B SLC with serial # starting with 60 and it is a mark I produced in 1990. I decided to get my own after reading some many good comments about them. Because of that, I did a lot of research regarding this model and its variatons. I understand the last 7x30 B was made was a mark III in 2001.

Post in thread 'Slc 8x30' Slc 8x30

Today I saw an auction on ebay of a pair of 7x30 B mark I and the serial number is 7072142B. If you add 1930 to 70 is 2000.

If it was made in the year 2000 how can it be a mark I? It should be at least a Mark III.

The first 7x30 SLC was introduced in 1985 and model 2, the one you show in your photograph seems to be model 2 introduced in 1991. To my knowledge there was never a model 3. See also my powerpoint about the History of Swarovski on the WEB-site of House of Outdoor.

Hi Sky2goflying,

Between 1985 and 1991, Swarovski used a variety of patterns of Alpha-Numeric numbering.
In 1991 they standardised on patterns where you can add 1930 to the first two digits to determine the year of manufacture.
Those remained in use until September 2020.

The unit pictured dates from 1987 (as indicated by the 7), and is an original Mk I one as indicated by the open ends to the objectives.
For more details of the types of A-N dating used prior to September 2020, see: Swarovski's Alpha-Numeric Numbering Explained
Table 1 addresses in detail the usage prior to 1991.

For details of the numbering currently used, see: Swarovski serialnumbers changed

And for more details on the various x30 SLC’s see: Slc 8x30

Thank you so much, I downloaded your Swarovski presentation and I really enjoyed it. eems I still need to understand how the serial numbers work. The models I refer to are the 7x30 SLC's Mark I, mark II, mark III and Mark IV.

Thank you so much John, I am still learning. My binoculars have a serial number that starts with 60 so that means they were made in 1986 then.
Right now they are in SONA being refurbished to a 7x30 B mark IV, these are my first Swarovski binoculars and I am very exited.

Gijs,

Back in 2012 I scanned and posted the attached 1995 Eagle Optics Catalog, believing that it would be an invaluable reference for the future.
Note that on Pg. 12 the "(New!) SLC 8x30WB Mark III" is shown along with the other SLCs. One of the not-so-obvious differences between it and the Mark IV that followed it is that it had "push-in" eyecups, whereas the latter has "twist-in" eyecups. Fortunately, when SONA upgraded my 8x30 Mk II a few years back they put it in a Mk IV body.

I wonder how many people never realized the 8x30W SLC Mk I model was not waterproof despite all of Swaro's claims in their advertising, product manuals and catalogs. I certainly didn't until I sent in a pair this June that I bought back in 2011 for removal of the white cotton candy growing on the inside of the barrels. I went ahead and paid the $500 upgrade to MK IV's after they refused my request to put the $500 toward a pair of 8x30 CL's with me paying the difference.

Ed, post 7,
I referred to the 7x30 SLC and again to my knowledge Swarovski only produced a Mark 1 and a Mark 2 7x30SLC. . I have never seen or read that the 7x30 SLC's were further upgraded, but if so I am eager to learn.

Gijs, post 9,

Please look at the price list on pg. 45 of the EO catalog where the 7x30 WB SLC Mk III and 8x30 WB Mk III are both shown for sale.
I've also attached pg. 9 from Christopher's ltd. 1995 Catalog which makes reference to both the 7x30 SLC Mk III and the 8x30 Mk III binoculars.

Thank you so much for all your responses, and all of the information given, it has been very educational. I can now tell you that my 7x30 B with serial # 6042066 was made on the second week of april in 1986 and it was the 66 binocular made that week.
Happy birding

Slight change of topic to SLC 8x30:
Looking at the 1995 Cristopher's catalog (thank you Elkclub), it refers to both the7x and 8x as "newly restyled" Mark IIIs. Is it fairly safe to say my SLC 8x30 #D67xxx (1997) is a Mark III?

Hi Foss,
If it has "push-in" eyecups it's a safe bet. Otherwise, "twist-in" eyecups would make it a Mk-IV in my book.
Which is it? :)

Gijs post 9,

This is a video from Traditional Bow Hunting who gives a review of his Swarovski's 7x30 B SLC Mark III. This is the reason why I decided to get my own.

I hope this helps.

7x30,s SLC refurbish update

I just spoke to SONA regarding my 7x30 B SLC Mark I refurbish to a Mark IV and they mention that they are not upgrading 7x30,s any more and that I will be getting a 8X30 Mark IV.
To bad that they do not offer that option anymore, they say that they do not have some of the parts needed for that.
I will definitely enjoy my new refurbished 8x30,s I Just wanted to let people know that the 7x30 upgrade is no longer avilable.
