I'm in Macau for a few days for a conference and was able to go birding both this morning (thanks to jet lag) and this evening, before dinner. Very happy to see 17 birds, among which 10 lifers!

On the other hand, I would have loved to have been birding with a guide, or even a local, as I let many birds go (probably about 30%) that I was not certain about. Despite my studying up, the Asian birds are quite different than what I am used to.

This evening I drove about an hour and a half south of here to chase a mega rarity for this state. I quickly found my target, which was a state lifer (number 249).

215. Black-bellied Whistling Duck

Dave

I started going through my photos and I have added:

440 Black Shouldered Kite
441 Stark's Lark
442 Long Tailed Paradise Whydah

Crawling along in the summer heat and humidity here. Just two new species on Saturday:
288. Wood Stork
289. Dickcissel

Jeff

Looks like you're having a great time in Africa, Andy. Have you been there before?
Jeff

Thanks Jeff,

I'm just back actually, the internet was very hit and miss so I saved my updates till I got back.
It was my second trip to Namibia, but this time we went to the Caprivi, Botswana and Victoria falls(Zimbabwe). The best birding was done on non travel days, but there was still plenty to see on route. Every time I saw a bird I called stop, so we could get a photo. The joy of self drive rather than a bus trip.

2 more to add,

443 Long Billed Pipit
444 Eastern Clapper Lark

One new bird this morning, so I'm now up to 216 for the year.

216. Summer Tanager

To see this bird, I had to travel two hours to the southwest, since I am out of the bird's range in my part of the state.
