(BE) Melanistic rock dove? (1 Viewer)

Hey,

Had this beautiful black pigeon in my garden yesterday.

I've never observed a rock dove before in my garden or even area. It's definitely nowhere near their natural habitat, but I still assume it's a melanistic rock dove, based on his appearance. Hoping an expert could confirm (or deny).
- Smaller than the common wood pigeons, but larger than the eurasian collared doves that frequent my garden.
- Beautiful iridescent throat/neck. Possibly male due to how prominent it was.
- Orange eyes
- No white underwing, but still much lighter than the rest of its plumage.

This guy wasn't shy at all as he landed on my head less than 30 minutes after meeting me and started cooing. |^| (I don't live in an area where I'd expect birds to be this forward.)

Sounds like a domestic Rock Dove from its behaviour. Certainly melanistic but not too different to many feral birds which can be very dark, but this is quite a good looking bird.
