How many species of owl have you seen (5 Viewers)

No "new" owls, but on a recent trip over to Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area, Great Bend, Kansas, I observed two Burrowing Owls in a prairie dog town. I always enjoy being able to see these little guys as they are extremely rare here in Missouri.

I have just three I have seen:

Short-eared owl
Eurasian pygmy owl (When mating!)
Tawny owl

But soon it's time for the Long-ears chicks to hatch, this time I will see the parents!

I haven't seen Many.
#1: Lesser Sooty Owl
#2: Barn Owl
#3: Powerful owl

Comparable to the 40+ some people have got eh?

But I have also heard the Barking, Sooty and Boobook

Ghana added Akun Eagle Owl, Fraser's Eagle Owl, Northern White-faced Owl, Red-chested Owlet and 'Chestnut' Owlet, Ethiopia gave great views of Abyssinian LE Owl, Grayish Eagle Owl and Mackinder's Eagle Owl.
I'm now on 118 although you could probably knock 10 or so off if following Clements. 2011 looks like a great owling year with a spring trip to Finland and summer trip to Togian, Peleng, Taliabu etc.

Just found this thread... and made me think "How many I've seen, really?". I know I do dreadfully with Owls, even if I love them... and now I realize I did even worse than I thought, this is my list after birding for 32 years!!! :eek!:

1. Tawny Owl (Strix aluco) Spain 1979 (I saw my first Owl ever when I was 11, how tender, sigh, |=)|)
2. Little Owl (Athene noctua) Spain 1981
3. Barn Owl (Tyto alba) Spain 2001
4. Barred Owl (Strix varia) Florida (USA) 2002

8. Short-eared Owl (Asio otus) Spain 2007
9. Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo) Spain 2009

and heard Common Scops Owl (Otus scops) many times but I've been unable to locate it so far, sniff, :-C...

Northern White-faced Scops (Kenya)
Greayish Eagle (Kenya)

Pearl-Spotted Owlet (Kenya)

Brings me to 33.

Tropical Screech
Tawny-bellied Screech
Black-banded (i.e. "The San Isidro Mystery Owl")

Now at 36.

I haven't added mine to this list yet (mainly because I don't do well with owls, given that they hide in the dark and all), but:

Morepork Ninox novaeseelandiae
Southern boobook Ninox boobook (yes I split novaeseelandiae and boobook, so what?)
Sulawesi scops-owl Otus manadensis
Rajah scops owl Otus brookii
Little owl Athene noctua
Asian barred owlet Glaucidium cuculoides
Brown wood owl Strix leptogrammica
Barred eagle owl Bubo sumatranus
Buffy fish owl Ketupa ketupu
Brown fish owl Ketupa zeylonensis
