Just missed the century (I'll complete it tomorrow.) All day we were struck by the paucity of birds in terms of numbers among the species we saw (e.g. a dozen Chaffinches all day), and things missing from usual winter haunts, presumably because of the warm weather.

Our only mammal was Rabbit. We found flowering primroses in Beckley Woods!!

Happy New Year!

John

Crazily I can add Swallow to the UK list, one flew over Horsey Corner in Norfolk. Presumably the bird that had been seen nearby at Winterton on a couple of days after Christmas.

I'm about to start some fun with spreadsheets. Keep the submissions coming, everyone.

I think Team UK were on 126 before John's post. Haven't started on adding up any of the others yet.

John - the chaffinches were all at Titchwell. Hundreds of them.

First (and only) mammal of the year - Grey Squirrel (two of them).
First flowering plant of the year - Bramble
First dead bird for the year (unfortunately) - Razorbill

I had to cook dinner.

I'll post some draft lists shortly. As well as checking your own team's list to see if there's anything you saw or heard on 1 Jan which you can add, I'd be grateful if people could point out any obvious errors in my lists for USA and Australia. I'm prone to missing synonyms due to lack of familiarity.
