The young White-tailed Eagle in Fanel was identified as freshly released in France, and weaing a transmitter.

I hope the 'bomber' will settle in Fanel and start breeding sometime in the future. I only wonder why they breed White-tailed Eagles and release them, while it would be much easier to translocate chicks from the very healthy population in Germany and Poland.

I agree with you..this has been the approach for Bearded Vultures in the past.

Its that Migration time again!
Time to visit Wasserscheide / Gurnigel region again.
For next 2 months observers will be reporting migration numbers.
In the last few days these beauties have been seen:

• Black Vultures
• Bee eaters
• Golden Eagle
• Honey Buzzards
• Griffon Vultures
• Montagus Harrier
• Osprey

I listened to my own message and went with my friend Jon today.
The weather started fine, blue clear skies but ended with Hail Storm and torrential rain.
Scenery was outstanding, however still early for migration of large number of birds.
The best seen today included:

• Honey Buzzards
• Common Buzzards
• Bee Eaters(25)
• Marsh Harriers
• Kestrels
• Ravens
• Mistle Thrushes
• Red Kites
• Black Kite

Others reported Golden Eagle and Sparrowhawk in the area.
Black Stork and Osprey were reported nearby
A great day out

I took a few hours off to try and twitch the Little Bittern and the Little Crake recently reported at Inkwilersee.
This is one of my favourite spots for Great and Little Bittern, Smews, Night Herons, Cattle Egrets, Ferruginous Duck and Spotted Crake.
Few birds around but did manage a few seconds of the Little Crake.
Great place to visit.

Where to begin with so many good birds around.
I went with a good friend to Klingnauersee. It did not disappoint.
Some 45 Species In a few hours including:

• Black Terns
• Night Heron
• Great White and Little Egrets
• Marsh Harriers
• Greylag Geese
• Water Rails
• Kingfisher
• Spoonbill

Dipped on the Pygmy Cormorant, that reappeared in the afternoon.

Reports of Pallid Harrier coming from the Birkenhofweiher / Ins region.
I have seen this bird there several years ago.
White tailed Eagle is also around the area..get down there!

Am currently in Lucerne for work but have had a bit of an opportunity for birding. Friday morning near my hotel produced a splendid pair of Penduline Tits (!), four Hawfinches and two Firecrests. I got down to the lake this afternoon in fairly unpleasant weather. The highlight was a group of three sleepy Ferruginous Ducks. Also over 170 Red-crested Pochards, although most were fairly distant. I'm free all day tomorrow and was hoping to go into the mountains, although it looks like there will be low cloud, at least through the morning.

Today a splendid day at Klingnauer Stausee with Pygmy Cormorant, other waterbirds and Lesser Woodpecker. I seen this species before, also in Switzerland, yet i liked it. If watching Pygmy Cormorant at 20 degrees warm in October in Switzerland is a sign of climate change - count me in!

Well done Andrew on Pendulines..I missed them so far this year.
Have seen them in Klingnauersee, Fanel and near Grosswangen.
Glad the Pygmy Cormorant is still there..I dipped the other day.
Fat Wagtail..anything special you are looking for? Nice birds down at Fanel at the moment.

I saw 2 penduline Tits too. Very uncommon in Switzerland.

I wonder where this Pygmy Cormorant comes from? This year, Pygmies bred in two places in Germany for the first time. I wonder if Germans ringed their young, for this bird appears not ringed.

Strange indeed Jurek.
I have seen one or two in the past around Rapperswil and Augst but they never stayed for more than a few days.
This one seems to like it here.
They are plentiful in the east particularly Greece and Turkey

Re Pygmy Cormorant, they breed not far away in Italy the Po Delta area.
