Crested Caracara, Tri-colored Heron, Viera Wetlands Park, Florida

Thanks to greensnakeman's post right here in BirdForum, I took a quick side trip to the Viera Wetlands Park during a 3 day business trip in Florida and got my first Crested Caracara. I also got my first Tri-colored Heron and my first wild Alligator. The best thing about this park is that all the wildlife are relatively tame. The juvenile Caracara pranced around right in front of me while I happily snapped pics!

Ring-Billed Gull for me also - about 1 mile from my doorstep in Cardiff!

Do you mind if we Yanks ship a few million Ring-billed Gulls your way?
It's pretty much all we get in Chicago, any large shopping mall or McDonalds is a sure haven of hundreds of them!

:-O

An adult & a immature feeding in fields just outside Ellington, Northumberland. Seen from side of A189 :t:

2 male Black Redstarts on the common at Landguard Point...in winds of over 30mph, sleet, rain and almost snow at one point. Suffer for your art!

Had 8 this year! The birds are:

Smew
Slavoniam Grebe
Caspian Gull
Little Owl
Long-eared Owl
Lesser-spotted Woodpecker
Tree Sparrow
White-crowned Sparrow

Keep 'em coming!

Edit: ooh err! Lesser-spot wasn't a lifer. It was just a Norfolk tick! Felt likea lifer though.

Feel free, it's one of my most annoying bogey birds, esp when you see such great pic's of the long staying birds in England eating bread etc.

P.S. on second thoughts could you please just post one to me, as no doubt I'd still dip on them.:-O

I'm the same with them. It's been ages since I saw one. In fact the last one I saw was on 15/03/2002 at Michael Wood Services on the M5.

rosy starling
franklin's gull

Violet-crowned Woodnymph (number 1,522). One of 136 lifers on a birding trip to Honduras.

I was in Honduras last year, did you visit Cusuco NP at all? That's where i was based for a week followed by a week's diving on Utila...

My most recent lifer was Russet-mantled Foliage-gleaner Philydor dimidiatum at Parque Nacional das Emas in the state of Goias, Brazil on March 5th.

I got rained out trying for White-winged Nightjar, which was the bird I really wanted though. Didn't have much luck looking for Giant Armadillo either.

I've posted some potentially useful information for anyone considering visiting Emas NP on my website Birding Mato Grosso.

falcated duck in exeter or king eider in bideford both last sunday. king eider was first one up so technically the falcated duck was my last lifer however depending on your view of the duck without getting into a debate about it could be the king eider.

I had 21 lifers as an escort on a highschool trip to France and Barcelona in January, but the most exciting was a couple of alpine accentors at Les Chateau des Beaux en Provence. I just wish I had been able to ditch the kids and spend a day bird watching instead of babysitting.
