    The 7D has landed!!!

With Spot Focus the camera uses a very small area to determine the focus. With Single Point the area used is larger. Spot is great for a situation like the one Roy mentioned - when you want the focus on a pinpoint area. The disadvantage of Spot is that the small area may not contain enough...

    The 7D has landed!!!

I'm afraid that experience shows it is often the user, not the equipment. And if the fora can help users determine just what they're doing wrong then it's a much better outcome than if they were just told to send the camera back - because they'll have the same problems with the new camera. Of...

    The 7D has landed!!!

Although I would disagree with setting the colour space to aRGB. It's meaningless when shooting raw and can cause loads of problems shooting jepg if you don't know what you're doing. Much safer to leave it as sRGB if you're not very well clued up on the topic.

Me too, it does sound like Ian may not have LR's defaults set correctly.

    The 7D has landed!!!

    Unless you use LR 2.6.

    The 7D has landed!!!

I disagree, I think that shooting this in raw would have given a perfectly recoverable image with no blown highlights. Here's a link to an example showing just how much you can recover from a grossly over-exposed image with raw.

    The 7D has landed!!!

That's because the focussing system needs to grab the target with the centre point first. Try focussing on the pole with the centre point then move the camera sideways. When the centre point 'loses' the pole it should switch to one of the expansion points.

Yup, the special offer sticker has gone and the price is now £1195 - duh?

    The 7D has landed!!!

I've not tried videoing birds yet but, when I do I'll be trying it with a narrow aperture to maximise depth of field and minimise the amount of focussing required. From what I've been reading the ideal shutter speed is 1/2 the frame-rate. So at 30 fps a shutter speed of 1/15 s will give the most...

    The 7D has landed!!!

Nor me. And there's a grey one down in Sussex - just as I'm stuck up here in Loghborough for the week.

    The 7D has landed!!!

Unfortunately that offer didn't last long at all. But it does suggest that there may be a little more to come. But I reckon £1000 exc VAT is going to be the limit for a long time. I'd be tempted to order from WEx at £1195 on 28th Nov. If the price drops after that date you can always send it...

    The 7D has landed!!!

Lightroom v2.5 has beta support for the 7D. I'm also using some hacked 50D profiles that work reasonably OK.

    The 7D has landed!!!

If we knew what they meant by 'the EOS facility' then we might know if it's wrong or totally wrong.

    The 7D has landed!!!

Four months before an election! I seriously doubt it. Much more likely that Labour will do what the Tories did in 1992. They decided they were going to lose the election so let the economy slide - figuring they'd get in in 1997 when thinbgs were recovering. Unfortunately for them the population...

    The 7D has landed!!!

Not stuck with DPP, using the beta support in Lightroom. No chance of support in CS3. It looks like there may be a 2.6 release of Lightroom with full 7D support, which would be good news for those that don't want / can't afford to upgrade to v3. So you can buy Lightroom and use ACR with that...

You could have different focussing in modes in the three camera user settings.

    The 7D has landed!!!

It's really difficult to do objective tests on something like AF, especially, as you say, because there are so many more options for it. Until I went to the Pro Solutions seminar on C.Fn settings for the 7D I still wasn't completely sure about how the C.Fn settings really worked. That seminar...

    The 7D has landed!!!

If you mean this one, then I agree with those that reckon it looks more like a reflected image than a carry-over from the previous one. In that same threadm Bill Boehme has posted what sounds like a reasonable guess at the cause. And explained how a firmware fix could solve it wit no impact on fps.

    The 7D has landed!!!

I don't bother with DPR nowadays. Do these sound like real problems or just people who don't know how to work their camera? One of the reasons I gave up with DPR was the sheer number of people posting shots taken at 1/30s, 200mm and complaining about blur.

Or just a couple of quid more from Digital Depot if you use the right code. Ordered one yesterday - arrived this morning.

    The 7D has landed!!!

About 10 years ago, when normal CF cards were restricted in size to around 512 MB but you could get a 1GB microdrive for a reasonable amount of money (about £150).

    The 7D has landed!!!

24MB! Luckily hard drive storage is dirt cheap. £80-ish will get you 1.5TB. That'll take 60,000 7D raw files - should last a year or two.

One of the advantages of being single. Being newly retired (with a decent redundancy package helps as well).

    The 7D has landed!!!

Well, the battery had virtually zero charge, so I could only take a few shots. Here's the garden at ISO 6400. It's been processed with the Lightroom Beta profile and had some NR done on it. I don't believe in pixel-peeping, so no 100% crops. Tomorrow I plan to go out with Didi when she sees...

    The 7D has landed!!!

Well, I've obviously got more money than sense. We went out for lunch today and drove past Park Cameras on the way home. 15 minutes later and I'm walking out with my new 7D. Battery is on charge, photos to post tomorrow - I hope.
