Garry,

Hang on now. This is getting very hypocritical.

Lee has demonstrated time and time again, that he does not carry out his "Black Ops" investigations in person, but always behind other birder's backs and by electronic media. Yet no one can tackle him via those same forums which he utilizes to target any and all records he dislikes, and promote himself and his blogs, by spamming them with the same content over and over?

I have said for a long time now, that there is something quite wrong with birding, and I have to say Lee and his ilk epitomize it.

So many people out there say things like "rise above it" and "Its only birds", "Only a laugh".

And yes. It is only birds. And should be a laugh. But there are people out there, who exist in all walks of life, who want nothing more than to drag other people down. Wannabe bullies. And they can get away with their behaviour, primarily because there are so few willing to stand up to them.

It wont last forever though. This whole cyber behaviour thing is raising more and more legal issues, and several states in America have already brought about legislation to tackle cyber bullies/stalkers etc., on the back of serious tragedies. Sooner or later it will be brought in here. And moderators will be forced to censure and probably even ban people like Lee, who continuously seek to victimize others.

Owen

Owen,

I followed this discussion with interest and felt no urge to partake...until I read your latest contribution.

You have a nerve to use the above highlighted as though you were holier than thou. You were the bully until so recently with your disjointed ravings, sniping from a blog that only permitted moderated replies, about three in all the time it ran, and these from mates who were probably co-authors. Yeah I can see you all snickering in the pub as you lined up your next victim.

I especially love this bit
primarily because there are so few willing to stand up to them

But then came http://butchstringer.blogspot.com/ and guess what? Owen hid under a rock. What a pity you didn't choose to stay there.

Twite.

Yeah I fully expected some Irish eejit to jump on there with something like this.

As most people are aware, my blog was used to tackle exactly the sort of people who carried out the kind of behaviour that so many people dislike with Lee, and the brave people in Irish birding, who create false email addresses and blogs to attack their targets and other peoples birds, as I stated many moons ago elsewhere.

http://www.surfbirds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7846

With that argument won, the IRBC having turned around on the issue, and the perpetrators of various seedy dealings named and shamed, I saw no reason to continue, beyond the kind of triumphalism that would see me akin to buying a bowler hat and an orange sash, and marching down their driveways.

Hmmm, is that ANOTHER brave anonymous blog you have there Twite? Ya know I do think it is? ;)

Good luck with that.

Owen

None of the above 182 posts are REAL

My wife just took a picture of me in the shower. I've just woken up and found that I have had an incredible dream...

Blimey.
What enjoyable reading. This is brilliant. Ihave always had the notion that twitching was for the dedicated few. I had an idea that there would be lots of competition between twitchers as to how many birds were twitched each year. If you have the time and resources to take this birdwatching hobby to these extremes then I salute all of you that have the dedication to do so. I myself, am a lowly local patch birder.
The animosity here is bewildering to me.
I can understand why some would want to twitch as many species in Britain each year.
The thrill of the chase, will it still be there when I get in location etc. But, to slag off certain individuals from behind a computer screen is just not right.
If you have issues with certain individuals and from this thread it seems that Mr Lee Evans is mostly in the firing line here, maybe justifiably so, don't know him never met him, not one to judge him, but he seems to be a very knowledgeable man, and seems very passionate in what he does.
Those who are having issues on here need to sort it out some place else.
How about at the next big twitch? All get together and have it out face to face. Do your character assassinations and chest poking out in the open. On a public forum such as this, isn't the place.
One final point to Lee Evans: you have been doing this for many years, I'd just carry on doing it mate, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Sorry everyone, but this thread is becoming very tedious and I think the mods should close it down very soon. We've heard it all before and no one is going to win any of these particular battles. Much of this thread should be discussed face to face, not on a forum.

If more and more hatred is going to be thrown around in the next couple of days, we won't just need step ladders at the next twitch, but first aiders as well.

Nobody is on this planet for long, can't we all just TRY to get on with one another, and enjoy the birds we see.

Suprised you're coming down so hard on Lee, Baz :)

ps how come are you reading this if this thread is so tedious ?

Quite right, whoever you are. I am confident that most of us condemns everything that needs condemning in the appropiate portionality

Kind regards

Johnny Allan

I know we all have different views and opinions on the subject on this thread, but one thing that will hopefully unite us all, is this kind if behaviour.

A honey buzzard reported from the Swanton Novers Watchpoint yesterday , though I did not see it. Plenty of common buzzards , plus marsh harriers , red Kites and hobby during the week. Due to the thoughtless actions of a number of birdwatchers walking the long grass to disturbe the quail for a sighting despite being asked not to the birds have left the watch point long grass ( where I suspect they were nesting ) , but they still in the area.

It should be condemned in a more vociferous manner than what are the rights and wrongs of the UK 400 list.
Maybe time for a truce everyone ..no one is going to back down on a public forum. I think its time for Harry Hill to step in ...FIGHT8-P

If we shut the thread down we are fascist's, we are over moderating, we are obstructing the freedom of speech etc etc etc..... on the other hand if we let it run we are accused of not moderating the thread. A lot of people have mailed us saying the topic needed an airing on a forum so people can add there views, so as long as we don't resort to foul language and threats of kicking the granny out of all and sundry, I don't suppose in the scheme of things, ie life, it's that important!

May as well have the debate/discussion here as anywhere else, the thread will die a death when everyone gets bored with it and it will then sink into the archives for future generations to argue/discuss,or debate.

Best
Steve

Absolutely Steve... Actually it could be handy in the future to have all this documented and undeletable and keeps it out of other threads. I've always thought there should be a permanent "spoiling for a rumble" thread.

may even be used as evidence in a court of law ;)

However, my morning was not totally wasted. A couple of priceless quotes:

As any medic will tell you, twitching can still occur after breathing has ceased.

Indeed so, as Lee mentioned only yesterday, the dead guys lists continue to grow with retrospective splits. Ideally he would hold seances to tell them the good news. I already checked, there are two departed twitchers in the 490s that could be getting quite excited.....

Hi there,

as requests to have my data removed from the UK400 Club has been refused point blank, I've checked out a few things with the DPA and will go down that route.

I will post the result of that as and when any are obtained.

kind regards

Johnny Allan

I've had an idea that can put all this to bed. Although I have no real idea what the list-thing is all about, I propose the following lists:

1) A list of people who are on the list, and want to be.
2) A list of people who are on the list, but don't want to be (with no-one being allowed to access this list).
3) A list of people who aren't on the list, but want to be.
4) A list of people who aren't on the list, and don't want to be.
5) A list of people who have been taken off the list because they don't deserve to be on it anymore.
6) A list of people who have been taken off the list because they're dead.

This should keep everyone happy and they should all be friends again. Except the ones who are dead.

Ah...found the paper..... from a St Kildan study.

"Leaches showing all three of the above features were observed in the field at extremely close range (<3m) for at least 15 minutes; and in the face of initial excitement, both were heard to emit classic Leach's chatter calls!"

They also had dark rumped birds and ones with pale primary shafts, though not as yet on the same bird. (I have seen one of those (former))

That's why its going to be unfeasibly hard to prove to yourself, let alone any committee that you have seen a Madeiran

Hi Jane

I must have missed something on this thread. What three features?
