Companion pair to NL pure 12x42 (1 Viewer)

You have to ask if you are willing to deal with the weight.

Also, are you buying it for the magnification, the aperture, both, or something else?

What is it exactly what you are seeking? More power? An one and only pair of binoculars? Large exit pupil?
The weight isn't one of your concerns I reckon? You don't even say a word about the NL 10x32. :)

The 10x52 is a great allround pair of binoculairs, but I wouldn't buy it as my only one. I would add a 32 for the days I like light traveling or birding isn't my main purpose (short walk with family, etc.).
I think the 10x52 crossed a line. The 42's are easy to carry without a harness. I prefer carrying the NL 52 with a harness (rick young to be more specific).
So yes, a great pair! But quite heavy. The NL 12x42 is the one what the largest AFOV. The NL 14x52 is nice for longer ranges and you don't want to carry a tripod/scope. But it's not really allround. I consider the NL 12x42 as quite allround (as are the 10x42 and 8x42).

I already have the 8x42NL, which satisfies all of my general purpose requirements. If I were doing it again, and if it were today, I would have gone for a 10x52, since I am perfectly fine with the added weight over the 8x42. Provides additional magnification, has a wide-enough view, is bright and other than the additional weight, has no other downside as a general-use binocular. I also have a "fun" Zeiss classic 15x60 GAT* Porro-prism that I generally use in-and-around the house.

I just need a high magnification counterpart to the 8x that I have, and should also have all-round usability, than being just a one-trick-pony. A 15x56 SLC to me, is a one-trick pony (not usable handheld and too narrow a view) and cannot be used for general purpose usage. A 12x42NL is fully usable as an all-rounder (I know, since I had extensively tested it before). A 14x52 is less of an all-rounder, despite me being able to steadily handhold it (the 15x56 SLC on the other hand, was useless when hand-held, due to the overall poor handling vis-a-vis the NLs).

I think the 12x42NL seems to click all of the buttons, as a companion to the 8x42NL. Wide enough view (300 ft at 1000 yards is a great threshold for a general-use binocular, and the 12x42 has 339ft), light enough and the 12x magnification is a good compliment to the 8x that I have.

Not interested in a 32mm binocular, since the 42mm I already have, is light enough. Hence did not comment back on the 10x32. But do appreciate the suggestion.
