Europe other than the UK is now on 90, with the Europe total unchanged on 162.

It hadn't really occurred to me to specify a taxonomy to use, although it's probably only Europe where it's not obvious which should apply. I realise I've been subconsciously using BOU, so splitting hooded crow but not pied wagtail. This probably isn't the right forum to debate that, but if anyone knows of a good reason why pied wagtail should count separate from white, do tell...

IOC is the obvious one to use, as it's international, unlike BOU or AOU.

In case you don't already have them, the four most interesting birds (of a grand total of just 10 species) recorded by me in Helsinki on 1 January were: Eurasian Pygmy Owl, White-backed Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and Azure Tit.

How difficult is the Azure Tit? I looked up the place its reported and it seemed to be a huge reedbed.

I can add Sandhill Crane to the US list. We have a local population that winters over here in Colorado. They're fun to see when the snow covers the fields.

I have heard it is now quite easy. She/he visits at feeders in Fastholma, Vanhankaupunginlahti, Helsinki.

I´m seriously thinking I must go to look at it.
