I recently saw a Brown Capped Pygmy Woodpecker.

Location: Karnataka, India

About 20 Parrot Crossbill last week in Schermbeck, Germany.

Those were discovered by me!

My most recent lifer is the Two-barred Greenish Warbler in the Netherlands.

Thanks Larry,
it was my first visit so it was the only way it was gonna be: loads of lifers!... 3 weeks birding, 550 species for the list and some neat lifers!

On my way back from Zambia to the UK I had a 7-hour stopover in Dubai so I legged it out of the airport and got a taxi to the 'pivot fields' area for a couple of hours.
Found 5 lifers: White-cheeked Bulbul, Indian Silverbill, Sand Partridge, White-tailed Lapwing and Sociable Lapwing. Not a bad little spot of impromptu birding.

One of the more embarrassing gaps in my UK list finally got filled via a 3-second view of the black-throated diver at Chew Valley Lake this afternoon. A whole afternoon of looking at hundreds of grebes, for three seconds, after which it dived and probably resurfaced 3 counties away. Stunning bird, though.

I was really hoping that I would be able to report that my latest lifer was African Pitta, but in spite of searching in 42C heat in the Zambezi valley, Zimbabwe we dipped. The reason was the rainy season had failed to start and no birds were displaying.

Instead my latest lifer was the Chirinda Apalis, a rather uninspiring warbler in the Vumba mountains of Zimbabwe.
