Overview
The vast delta of the Po River lies in northern Italy.

Notable Species
In the central regions of the bay, thousands of Black-necked Grebe, Little Grebe, and hundreds of Great Crested Grebe spend the winter. Also wintering are Goosander, Red-breasted Merganser, and Common Scoter from Scandinavia.
Among the most common wintering ducks, worthy of mention are Mallard, Common Teal, and Pochard. Also common are Coot, Little Egret, Grey Heron, and Great Egret.
Thousands of sandpipers use the sandbanks of the bay and of the Scannone, while in summer the open waters of the bay are inhabited by Common Tern and Sandwich Tern.
Many migratory species can be found in spring and autumn. The bay is rich with small worms and molluscs, and during low tide hundreds of Ruff, Black-tailed Godwit, Little Stint, Spotted Redshank, Common Redshank, and Curlew are to be found feeding.
Throughout the year Black-headed Gull and Caspian Gull; follow fishing boats in search of small fish. Also common are Little Egret and Grey Heron. The bay is a feeding place for hundreds of Great Cormorant.1
