Overview
The Trebonsko Protected Landscape Area is a regarded as one of Europe's most valuable ecosystems and includes a Biosphere Reserve, several State Nature Reserves and the area is also a Ramsar Site. The terrain is varied, consisting of both wet and dry habitats.
There are a large number of artificial fishponds as well as countless rivers and streams, wet meadows and damp alder woodland, and extensive areas of peatbog. There are also deciduous and coniferous forest, cultivation and grazing land.
Birds
Notable Species
More than 150 species of bird are known to breed in this fascinating area include Great Bittern, various herons and both storks, crakes, terns and marshland waders.
Wetland passerines include Savi's and other warblers, and Penduline Tit. In the forests are grouse, woodpeckers and owls and raptors breeding in the area include three harriers, two kites and White-tailed Eagle.
Passerines of the forest and wooded areas include Barred Warbler and Red-breasted Flycatcher, Wood Lark and Red-backed Shrike.
Also important for passage birds Trebonsko attracts large numbers of geese, particularly Greylag Goose and Bean Goose, also many ducks including Red-crested Pochard
Waders also occur on passage as well as herons, egrets and Eurasian Spoonbill.

Areas of Interest
The pleasant town of Trebon is about 140km south of Prague and can be reached via the E55. One of the most productive areas is the Velky-Tisy and Rozmberk fishponds to the north of the town.
Svet Pond on the southern edge of Trebon is good for waterfowl and the town itself has nesting White Stork and Serin.
To the east is Stara Rka, a river system with associated marshes and woodland, another excellent birding site and State Nature Reserve.
Access and Facilities
This area lies in the south of the Czech Republic close to the Austrian border.
Accommodation can be found in Trebon and other nearby villages.
