Overview
The lake is only 6 km away from Brandenburg. The tower in Rietz is not nice and birds are rare. In the south of the lake is a tower from NABU (information available in Trechwitz).
Birds
Notable Species
260 different kind of birds registered in last 40 years. I have been there different time in spring and summer, so I would say it is ever worth to go there.
End of April is excellent place to hear the sound of the Great Bittern. Best place: go back around 50 m from the view tower to the bridge and than turn right and follow the way along the channel. This is a loop track of 3 km.
In summer very ofter hunt a male of Western Marsh Harrier near the view tower. In spring Red-necked Grebe looking for fish in the small channel near tower.
